They aren’t a hero. They are a company attempting to generate a profit by selling a product. This is likely to be helpful to the consumers, but they aren’t making a sacrifice for our benefit.

I was being a bit hyperbolic but if you actually pay attention to what’s happening in the industry you’ll see a very different approach between Intel and other “companies attempting to generate profit by selling a product”.

Yep, first-class Linux support, representative samples provided to reviewers, balanced hardware at reasonable prices. Not every for-profit GPU company does this.

and as soon as intel stops being the underdog in GPUs, they wont either.

Right now they are in the media/consumer blitz stage to generate attention and reputation. Hence all their “good” behavior.

give it a few years of success and they’ll be back to paying OEMs to not use competitor products.

A company that has an absolutely nasty history with anti-competitive practices, that is only playing nice right now because its trying to launch a new product and exploiting low prices to build goodwill.

but… if it fucks over AMD and nVidia and makes prices come crashing down like a landslide, its something I can accept. Just not going to, personally, have any delusions about them being for the consumers or heroes or anything.

So heres hoping Intel brings back the glory days of the 300 dollar GPU
